Solomons HILLERS

The founder and director of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (1957-1975)

    Solomons Hillers created and formed the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis that gave 25% of all new created medical preparations in USSR. Many talented Latvian organic chemists whose names became known around the world worked and “grew-up” in this institute. Today many of them work in the scientific laboratories of other countries.

Main invention:

Under the management of S.Hillers around 60 medical preparations have been synthesized and brought in production, including:

  • Furacilin (antibiotic preparation)
  • PASK (antiphthisis preparation)
  • Ftorafur (anticancer preparation)
  • Furagin (anti-infection preparation
